After we left Mirtos, we made our way to Agia Galini. We passed through the towns of Ano Viannos, Nipiditos (this town was a bit of a detour, ok we got lost and followed the wrong road. We ended up on a dirt road going through someones olive grove) Very entertaining. I felt like we should have been in one of those car rally adventures. From that town we went to Pirgos, Asimi, Mires, Timbaki and then Agia Galini. Agia Galini was recommended to go to from a friend. It is a cute little harbor town. A lot of the restaurants and hotels are placed on the side of a mountain. We found a hotel that had a slide, swings and a pool. It was about a 5 minute walk from the beach. We went to a restaurant called Pantheon, and had the saganaki, also recommended there. It was very good. Clay and I didn't get to really enjoy our dinner as the kids were starting to act up. The next day we left and headed across the Island to Rethimnon. I have to say, we think the Sea to Sky highway has a lot of turns, well, the roads through the mountains here are crazy. And I mean crazy! I will try to post a photo of some of them. When we got into Rethimnon, we decided that it was too busy so we kept on driving. We ended up in a town called Georgioupoli. It was recommended by someone in Mirtos. It is a very cute fishing town. We found a place just off of the main area. It was just one big room with 3 beds a small kitchen and a bathroom. While walking around the little town we came across a facility/restaurant, etc. If you bought a drink or ate there you could use the playground, lawnchairs and swimming pool. So we spent some time there. Wyatt has become a good little swimmer.
We spent 2 days at this little town. The second day we were there we took a red train (that goes on the road) and went to a lake called Kourna. It was about a 20 minute ride on the train. Wyatt and Lydia loved the train ride. We spent most of the day there. The lake is small, but nice. They have restaurants and rental places for paddle boats. they also have gift shops there. We rented a paddle boat and paddled around the lake for an hour. Wyatt and Clay got out of the boat and swam around for a bit. After that we went back to our place and relaxed a bit. Then went to that place and had dinner. The next day we left and drove to Iraklion, shopped around there for lawnchairs, bikes, etc. We ended up leaving there with nothing. From there we carried on and drove back to Petras, where we are staying.
We had a nice trip. The kids like to see the little churches everywhere, and of course who had the most goats on their side of the road.
